If you currently use another food or would like to use something else, switching a puppy’s food gradually is a crucial step for their digestive health and overall well-being. Introducing a new brand or type of dog food abruptly can often lead to stomach upset, diarrhea, or refusal to eat. Over the course of several days or weeks, the proportion of new food can gradually be increased while reducing the old food. The needle is very big and painful to the puppy. In addition, placing a microchip in a very young puppy that is growing is not ideal because the microchip can move locations. If you wait until they are under anesthesia during the spay/neuter, they will be old enough for the microchip not to move locations and it will be painless for them. Talk with your vet but most vets wait until at least 6 months old to preform a spay/neuter.
